Have you noticed how some people get mad if you have a different opinion than they have? They just can’t say, “Well I disagree.” They say instead “You’re intolerant.” It’s remarkably like George Orwell’s “Newspeak”. They then feel it’s their life’s mission to call you out on your intolerance by charging you with numerous accusations, like racism, bigotry and bullying. All because you had a different opinion.
This has been happening on campuses across the country. They censor all those that say anything the professors, and their propaganda receptacles disapprove of. College and other institutions in the public square, including blogs, used to be a marketplace of ideas to exchange. Ideas are discussed, debated and hashed out. But no longer. Now there is one acceptable way of speaking, only one acceptable thought to think, and certain acceptable words to express that thought, and acceptable people that instruct you on acceptability. All who disagree must be silenced. We all must walk, talk, think in lock step. Hitler, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Mussolini all mastered these techniques. And now they are being forced on us too. They were the racists and bigots and worse, but they made the masses believe that certain groups that they wanted to dispose of were evil.
I find George Orwell to have been brilliant on this topic. Besides “1984” he also wrote “Animal Farm” which had a similar theme. That would be, control of all thoughts and words by the “pigs” that ruled all the animals, and the exile and death that would be executed upon the wayward animals if they dared to disagree. Truth became false, and false became truth. Today the most vile activities are considered good, no matter how much they harm people. Only disagreeing with them is condemned.
But on blogs many simply can not accept that any would have an opinion that differs from them without being intolerant or bigoted. The anarchist groups we have today all think like this as well.
Scripture tells us there would be a delusion over the people since they have no love of the truth, especially the truth about Christ as Savior of sinners. This seems to be the only explanation I can come up with for the complete “intolerance” of an opinion that differs from the hearer.
Some have gone to such an extreme as to claim, since they have freedom of speech they have the right to shut down anyone that they don’t agree with. Freedom of speech now means freedom from hearing anything they don’t like. How can a sane person discuss anything with such inexplicable lunacy?
It makes no sense. It is intolerant. And it’s a great example of “Newspeak”.
But that’s our world today.

All truths are equal but some truths are more equal than others. 🙂 🙂
Good one! Another Animal Farm fan. Thanks for writing.
Not so much a fan as an observer. 🙂
That’s good too. Best wishes to you.
Great line: “Freedom of speech now means freedom from hearing anything [you] don’t like.”
The sad reality is that truth offends people. Jesus offended people. As Jack Nicholson said in a Few Good Men, “You can’t handle the truth!”

If you are interested, I wrote a short essay (700 words) called “Stigmatizing People Through Name Calling.” If you would like to read it, I am open to any feedback: https://christopherjohnlindsay.wordpress.com/2016/11/20/stigmatizing-people-through-name-calling/
I have read it and it is excellent, I completely agree.
