“I was glad when they said to me, Let us go to the House of the Lord.” Psalm 122:1
Years ago glorious church buildings were built to proclaim the glorious Christ, the Son of God, that died on the cross to pay for our sins. Years ago those that believed this would come with reverence to receive this gift of forgiveness.
But times have changed.
Unfortunately too many churches think they must change their message to please the culture.
Unfortunately for them, Jesus is the same, yesterday, today, and forever.
Many buildings are no more than empty shells. Jesus would call them whitewashed tombs.
The newer church buildings are much more like gymnasiums and stadiums. They’re built to have a rocking good time. Too many of the messages that are preached today are about self-improvement, power, and our own personal happiness. None of which is what Christ sent His apostles to preach. None of these messages gives forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal salvation.
Most people don’t care.
The world is on a motorcycle headed for hell and the last thing we want is the Word of Christ telling us so.
Oh, that our churches would recover their true vocation of preaching Christ crucified to the world and leave the cultural stuff where it belongs, in the culture.
May the people of Christ get over phony messages of greatness and embrace the Christ of Scripture again.
